ANIME FIELD NOTES
Sword Art Online
Quick notes for reviewing a match. This page is shorter than our expanded study guides.
Sword Art Online turns a virtual world into a place whose rules have consequences for the people inside it. Kirito's relationships develop across environments that do not all use the same systems. The franchise's changing game settings make context especially important.
What to notice
Learn which virtual world an item, organization or technique belongs to. A remembered mechanic from one arc may not apply in another. Likewise, Progressive revisits part of the setting through a more specific perspective rather than naming every Sword Art Online story.
Keep these straight
- A player's personal name and avatar name may differ.
- Aincrad and later virtual settings do not share every rule.
- Read the named arc or film before using a remembered result.
